Drummer Dan Drohan and Multi-Instrumentalist Mike Cantor announce the release of their debut full-length album, Posterbook.

Coming off the heels of their previous release, You're a Crusher/drocan!, which critics hailed as “a jagged masterclass in rhythmic tension” (Pitchfork) and “an uncompromising collision of jazz-literate percussion and digital grit,” (Post-Trash) the duo returns with a project that trades abstract walls of sound for a more vulnerable, lyrical form of songwriting. Part autobiography, part mix-tape, always the collaborators, Drocan brought in a global array of musicians to further expand the sounds of their sonic world.

“ mix of organic and synthetic elements, and then arrays the parts in often breathtakingly original ways.”
- Pitchfork on You’re a Crusher/drocan!  (7.3)

“You’re a Crusher/drocan! rarely settles; the record is a curiously warped pop project that’s as playful as it is focused.”
- Post Trash on You’re a Crusher/drocan!

“If there is one undeniably compelling aspect of You’re A Crusher / drocan! it’s not its trendy dual release, or its disparate vibes but its homespun charm.”
- SunGenre on You’re a Crusher/drocan!

The Architecture: One Tree, Twelve Branches

Posterbook is designed not as a single record, but as a musical ecosystem. The 12-track LP serves as the trunk —the core identity and narrative center of the project. To accompany the album, Drocan will unveil 12 companion EPs.

Each song on the LP acts as a starting point that branches out into its own EP, allowing the duo to explore the full spectrum of their musical upbringing. This branching structure results in a staggering 62-track collection that invites listeners to follow each individual song deep into its own unique sonic world.

Origins: Recovery and Reflection (2020–2025)

The seeds of Posterbook were sown in the isolation and intensity of the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2020 to 2025, Drohan and Cantor navigated the project through extraordinary personal stakes. While the duo managed the upheaval of the era, they did so from a unique vantage point: both of their partners worked on the medical front lines, creating a home environment defined by service, sacrifice, and a shared cultural weight.

The creative process was further shaped by Cantor’s journey recovering from a severe concussion, an experience that forced a total re-calibration of his relationship with sound. Throughout this healing period, Drohan remained a constant anchor, keeping in touch by encouraging Cantor to keep creating and sending tracks that pushed the conceptual sonic palette to its absolute limit. Connected as he was to heavyweights like Maggie Rogers and MGMT, Drohan remained magnetically drawn to Cantor’s studio, constantly seeking to unlock new layers of their shared creative language.

These years of healing sparked a deep period of reflection. The result is in part a turning away from their previous abstract instrumentals toward a lyrical, songwriting-focused approach that seeks to balance the absurdity of life with the grounding responsibility of being new fathers.

The Collaborators: A Global Community

The 12 tracks on the Posterbook serve as a crossroads for a diverse cast of contributors, ranging from international icons to the duo’s closest inner circle:

“HTU (How To Unravel)”
Nigerian Afro-beats artist Layzee Ella brings a shimmering vocal bounce to this dance-floor meditation on the transience of nightlife: “So we make a toast / to the ones we lost and the girls that ghosted.”

"Lucy"
Drohan's lyrics and vocals take the lead over a skittering beat while describing a breakup, telling an ex lover "For your sake conduct television on your account / Commit to things your always about / And then Lucy, you’re gonna be just fine."

"PHENOMENALICE"
The album’s emotional anchor, a bilingual ballad featuring Alice Park, who weaves English and Korean lyrics into a tapestry of longing and heartbreak.

"Cardboard"
A jagged, "cubist" funk workout featuring the distorted guitar of Gail Muldrow (Sly & The Family Stone, Parlet). Drohan takes the lead on vocals, dissecting the strange weight of attachment.

"BOUQUET(WHENUCTHABODY)"
The album’s lone instrumental cut, featuring soaring, anthemic solos from Saxophonist Chris Belden (Diamond Blues, Bad Motiv8r) and Brooklyn-based Trumpeter Matt Hull (Radio Brass, Stay Inside BK).

”KOOLAID KVLTURE":
A descent into psychedelic aggression featuring Adam Mason (Goratory, Sexcrement). Mason provides visceral warnings like: “The wolf will eat the sheep that doesn't look before it leaps.”

"Pacific Revenge"
A roots-infused closing requiem featuring the legendary jazz guitarist and sonic hero to both Cantor and Drohan in Bill Frisell (Blue Note Records) and the soulful depth of vocalists Sonya Rae Taylor (Gigi Perez, Boston Soul Collective), JoElle, Remington Swinson with upright bass provided by Brandon Meeks (Robert Glasper, Thundercat)

The project’s 12 EPs are further enriched by contributions from the "Drocan Family," including Jesse Scheinin (Jesse & Forever, Nick Hakim), Nick Collella (The Pound Puppies, The Shangri-La’s), and the textural production of trumpeter Jon Albertelly (Niki, suedefingers).

About Drocan

Drocan is the creative partnership of Dan Drohan and Mike Cantor, two architects of sound whose collaboration serves as a bridge between technical mastery and avant-garde exploration. By blending high-concept production with raw, autobiographical storytelling, they create music that functions as both a map of their past and a library of their future. Their synergy is rooted in a shared history of pushing rhythmic boundaries, transforming traditional instrumentation into "warped pop" landscapes that defy easy categorization.

Dan Drohan’s musical identity is defined by a relentless, percussive curiosity that has made him a sought-after collaborator for some of the industry's most influential voices. With a pedigree that includes work and deep connections with artists like Maggie Rogers, MGMT, and the electronic pioneer Daedelus, Drohan brings a rhythmic sophistication to the duo that is both primal and precise. His ability to ground abstract electronic textures with live, breathing percussion provides the heartbeat of the Drocan sound, ensuring that even their most experimental ventures remain physically resonant.

Mike Cantor provides the multi-instrumental and curatorial counterweight to Drohan’s kinetic energy. As a DJ and composer, Cantor’s versatility extends far beyond the studio. He maintains a steady presence in the nightlife scene with DJ residencies both in Boston and across the region, known for his ability to read a room while maintaining a distinct, eclectic ear. His live performances bridge the gap between electronic production and live improvisation. For Mike, music is inseparable from community advocacy. He has curated and performed in numerous concert series benefiting organizations that provide vital social services, including: Planned Parenthood, Planting Justice and Direct Relief. Whether he is sculpting noise in the studio, engineering international collaborations, or spinning for a crowded dance floor, Mike Cantor remains a pivotal figure in the Boston creative scene—a musician who views every note as an opportunity for connection and impact.

The duo’s evolution from the abstract, "jagged" instrumentals of their early work to the expansive songwriting of Posterbook reflects their transition into a new chapter of life. Now both fathers, Drohan and Cantor infuse their music with the dualities of their current reality: the absurdity of the modern world balanced against the grounding responsibility of family. This maturity has allowed them to move beyond "sound for sound's sake," instead utilizing their technical prowess to support deeply human narratives of sacrifice, service, and healing.
Ultimately, Drocan is more than a production team; they are the center of an ever-expanding creative ecosystem. Through their ambitious release structures and their ability to draw icons like Bill Frisell and Gail Muldrow to new voices like Layzee Ella and Sonya Rae Taylor into their orbit, they have established themselves as a global crossroads for innovation. Drocan remains committed to the idea that music should be a living entity—an uncompromising collision of grit and grace that continues to grow long after the final note is recorded.
